Normal people often don’t develop certain mental capabilities such as critical thinking and the ability to question themselves and the world around them… this happens to those who never need to think about what they are doing or thinking or believing because practically everyone else is doing/thinking/believing the same thing.

I believe that this is why ancient cultures used hallucinogens as a right of passage into adulthood. And why we would benefit from doing it now. Hallucinogens open your mind to the realization that everything you know and believe could potentially be wrong. Hallucinogens open your mind to the strange. They open your mind to the alternate sides of the things you may think you know. They open your mind to the minds of other beings. They open your mind to the power of your own mind and heart.

And of course, for those reasons, the powerful organizations that run the governments and business interests all over the world have made sure to keep hallucinogens illicit. They have worked hard to keep the public afraid of hallucinogens and dismissive of the validity of hallucinogenic experiences.
